24th march 1944: Ardeatine massacre

Roma-fosseardeatine6

The Ardeatine massacre, or Fosse Ardeatine massacre (Italian: Eccidio delle Fosse Ardeatine), was a mass killing carried out in Rome on 24 March 1944 by German occupation troops during the Second World War as a reprisal for the Via Rasella attack conducted on the previous day in central Rome against the SS Police Regiment Bozen.

Subsequently, the Ardeatine Caves site (Fosse Ardeatine) was declared a Memorial Cemetery and National Monument open daily to visitors. Every year, on the anniversary of the slaughter and in the presence of the senior officials of the Italian Republic, a solemn state commemoration is held at the monument in honour of the fallen. Each year, 335 names are called out, a simple roll call of the dead, to reinforce that 335 discrete individuals symbolise a collective entity.

21th March: International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on 21 March. On that day, in 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa, against the apartheid pass laws. Proclaiming the day in 1966, the United Nations General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination.

In South Africa, Human Rights Day is a public holiday celebrated on 21 March each year. The day commemorates the lives of those who died to fight for democracy and equal human rights for all in South Africa during apartheid, an institutionally racist system built upon racial discrimination. The Sharpeville Massacre on 21 March 1960 is the particular reference day for this public holiday.

20th March: The International Day of Happiness

International-Day-of-Happiness

The International Day of Happiness is celebrated worldwide every year on 20 March, and was originally conceptualized and founded in 2006 by Jayme Illien, CEO of the United Nations New World Order project, to advance happiness as a fundamental human right for all human beings, and happytalism, as new economic system, theory, and philosophy, which achieves the United Nations global goals, and the happiness, well-being, and freedom of all life on earth.

The next international day of happiness is March 20, 2021.

The 2020 International Day of Happiness campaign theme is β€˜Happiness For All, Together’”. To celebrate, UNIDOHappiness, the UN secretariat for the International Day Of Happiness, is calling on all 7.8 billion people and all 206 nations and territories, to take the “Ten Steps to Global Happiness” challenge and call to action. The ten steps to global happiness are “ten easy steps any individual, organization, or country, can take on the international day of happiness, and throughout happiness week, to celebrate the international day of happiness, while also advancing the happiness, wellbeing, and freedom of all life on earth by 2050, when the United Nations forecasts global population to reach 10 billion”. The first step is β€œTell Everyone”, which is designed “spread the word” to increase global awareness about the very existence of the international day of happiness, and the UN’s unanimous recognition of happiness as a human right, as well as happiness as an approach to sustainable economic and human development.

The 2006 origin and inspiration for creating the international day of happiness initially came from founder Jayme Illien’s belief that the happiness, wellbeing, and freedom of all life on earth is the ultimate purpose of every human being, nation, and society. Illien developed his vision for global happiness as humanity’s ultimate purpose, through a life spent on the frontlines saving orphaned and abandoned children fleeing war, genocide, and extreme poverty, and theorizing about solutions to the human condition, and the great challenges facing humankind, after he himself was abandoned as an orphan, and rescued from a roadside in India in 1980, by missionaries of Mother Teresa, who first named him Adam, and sent him to live in America.

20th March: Spring has arrived

vKJMTI
Today spring officially arrives. Yes, because spring does not always arrive on March 20 but sometimes also on the 21st. It is a strange spring, where the whole world is stopped with the only prospect of getting out of the emergency of the coronavirus. This current condition will likely last for other months, so holidays will probably also skip. It is therefore difficult to speak of Spring. In any case, I remember that the spring equinox brings the daytime hours longer than the nighttime hours.
Here in Italy this year there is a crazy heat .. and the climate changes are now impressive. In a few days maybe it will also be the summer heat. The only consolation of this coronavirus is that pollution is decreasing.

During the coronavirus period, states isolate themselves by stitching their borders

The more I look and reflect on Pawel Kuczysnki’s illustrations, the more I say that he is a genius. Sometimes certain designs would be to be interpreted with your own mind and your fantasy because explaining the meaning of things is often supericial and becomes trivial, because it is as if you wanted to enter into the consciousness of the person. In any case, I would like to give some suggestions: this picture best represents the current situation in Europe which, forced to face the coronavirus emergency, closes its borders, often traced by the filaments of their clothes. isolating themselves from the rest and the world and stripping at home ..

14th March: Pi(Ο€) Day

Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant Ο€ (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14 (3/14 in the month/day format) since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of Ο€. In 2009, the United States House of Representatives supported the designation of Pi Day.

Pi Approximation Day is observed on July 22 (22/7 in the day/month format), since the fraction 22⁄7 is a common approximation of Ο€, which is accurate to two decimal places and dates from Archimedes.

Two Pi Day, also known as Tau Day for the mathematical constant Tau, is observed on June 28 (6/28 in the month/day format).

In 1988, the earliest known official or large-scale celebration of Pi Day was organized by Larry Shaw at the San Francisco Exploratorium, where Shaw worked as a physicist,[8] with staff and public marching around one of its circular spaces, then consuming fruit pies.[9] The Exploratorium continues to hold Pi Day celebrations.

On March 12, 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a non-binding resolution (111 H. Res. 224), recognizing March 14, 2009 as National Pi Day. For Pi Day 2010, Google presented a Google Doodle celebrating the holiday, with the word Google laid over images of circles and pi symbols;Β  and for the 30th anniversary in 2018, it was a Dominique Ansel pie with the circumference divided by its diameter.

The entire month of March 2014 (3/14) was observed by some as “Pi Month”. In the year 2015, March 14 was celebrated as “Super Pi Day”. It had special significance, as the date is written as 3/14/15 in month/day/year format. At 9:26:53, the date and time together represented the first 10 digits of Ο€.

CORONAVIRUS – The story from Italy: locked up in their own homes.

brown-and-gray-painted-house-in-front-of-road-1396122
Today, 13th March is the second day when most of the citizens are locked up at home, and after the decree implemented on 11 March, only the curfew remains as the most extreme measure. Staying at home is not difficult but often you also need a walk, especially for those who live in the apartment.

We have to stay home until April 3rd. I learn from TV and internet news that today schools have also closed in Germany, where they have now exceeded 2000 co-infected. Many international VIPs have tested positive for Coronavirus and have already postponed some Europa League matches and the first Formula 1 grand prix in Australia.

Things to do at home would be many: the best thing would be to read a few books but often the web diverts our attention, especially with social networks, especially if the VIPs, like the singers, entertain us with their concerts from home, after they ran a whole campaign inviting all citizens to stay home ..

In addition to reading, many could discover the beauty and the art of writing or even drawing (or painting). In practice it can be a period to cultivate one’s passions or even to discover new ones. It is perhaps an unrepeatable period, which can divert us from the frenzy of everyday life and from the gloabal and social world.

The TV would be avoided, even if watching it a little never hurts … Of course if you are with your family it could be a burden to always be with your wife lol …
Every now and then you could go for a walk, for a breath of air, for sports or for the dog, but only if you are in an isolated area and without assemblies of people …

Better to avoid doing stupid things, such as going out to visit a friend or going to party .. in Italy thousands of fines have already been made to those who have transgressed the rules of the new decree ..
It is a time when you have to be responsible, although young people are the most carefree and less aware of the emergency situation. The virus could remain until the summer, although, according to what I learned from some statements by the heads of state of Germany and the United Kingdom, “almost” expects the virus to infect the whole population in order to trigger that mechanism called as ‘flock immunity’.

LYRIC

I tried my best to be just like
The other boys in school
I tried my best to get it right
And died at every June
This mountainside is suicide
This dream will never work
Still the sign upon my headstone, write
“A champion of the world”
I tried my best to stay alight
Fly like a firework
I tried my best to taking flak
But my rocket ship reversed
No referee, don’t stop the fight
Everyone can see I’m hurt
But I’ll stand before conquistadors
‘Til I’m champion of the world
and when I sail
I’m sailing west
(Though I might fail) knowing I might fail
But still I am hoping for the best
(In my dreams) and in my dreams
Onto my chest
She’ll bring the colors and say
“I wandered the whole wide world
But baby, you’re the best”
La, la, la, la, oh
Oh, oh, oh, ay
La, la, la, la
So I’m flying on my bicycle
Heading upwards from the Earth
I am jumping with no parachute
Out into the universe
I am E.T. on my bicycle
With this kid and I want more
I am riding on my rocket ship
And I’m champion of the world

Valencia-Atalanta will be played behind closed doors tonight

champions

The Champions League resumes tonight and Valencia Atalanta will be played but behind closed doors, with the stadium empty. Unusual training this morning, in which the players greeted each other by touching their elbows. From the point of view of the outcome, this is the most interesting game because Atalanta this year not only plays the champions league but could even reach the quarterfinals.

The challenge between Valencia and Atalanta will be broadcast live exclusively by Sky

This is the second race in history between these two teams, which had never faced each other before the first leg. The one played against Valencia at San Siro was also the first match for Atalanta against a Spanish club. This game ended 4-1 in favor of the Nerazzurri, who only managed to score four goals in a single European match in the 1990/1991 UEFA Cup round of 32 against Fenerbahce. In addition, with this result, Atalanta also became the third team to score four goals in the first knockout game played in the Champions League after Manchester United in 1996/1997 and Valencia in 1999/2000. Only four teams managed, in the return match, to overturn a passive of 3 or 4 goals in previous 36: two of these are Spanish, Deportivo La Coruna against Milan in 2003/2004 and Barcelona against PSG in 2016/2017. Valencia lost their last home game against an Italian team: 0-2 with Juventus in 2018.

Atalanta played only one game after the first leg against Valencia, winning 7-2 at Via del Mare against Lecce.
